Wind Towers

Pioneering solutions for onshore wind turbines

Coatings that reduce maintenance costs and extend tower lifetime

Over the years, Hempel has pioneered many solutions for onshore wind turbines that have gone on to become industry standards. We launched the world’s first two-coat system for onshore wind towers in 2008. Today, around 80% of wind tower producers using a two-coat system choose Hempel.

Today, we are meeting the demands of modern wind towers

Towers are becoming taller and heavier to support larger rotors and higher-capacity turbines.

At the same time, economic and sustainability pressures are pushing stakeholders to extend operational lifetimes, reduce total cost of ownership, and meet ESG targets. These challenges require coatings that deliver maximum durability, reduced maintenance needs, and a strong sustainability profile for even the most demanding environments.
Decades of experience protecting wind towers

Coating solutions that deliver real value

Less overall cost

High-performance tower coatings prevent premature structural degradation, reduce maintenance needs due to higher productivity and lower the total cost of ownership of wind assets.

Less maintenance

Minimizing maintenance needs is key as it is challenging and costly.

Less emissions

Our coating systems are developed to reduce VOC emissions and support sustainability requirements, while maintaining the durability needed for long-term wind tower protection.
Quality assured

Performance & durability that exceeds the standards

Our range of coating solutions align with the highest international standards, including NORSOK and ISO 12944, ensuring your coatings meet the most rigorous quality criteria on the market. Our patented activated zinc technology is supported by comprehensive performance test reports and third-party certifications.

NORSOK

Standard developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to ensure safe and cost-effective coatings in harsh environments.

ISO 12944

International standard defining requirements for corrosion protection of steel structures by protective paint systems in urban, industrial and offshore environments.
