Sustainability Mission and Reporting

Transparency in Action

External disclosure, validation and recognition

Transparent and comparable reporting is essential for disclosure, accountability, and influencing broader positive change.

Based on the expectations of our customers and stakeholders, we have selected and prioritised ESG ratings and reporting frameworks that align with our material issues and strategic readiness. Today, we report according to leading global standards and initiatives, including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), which guides our climate risk reporting. We have validated Science Based Targets (SBTi) to steer our decarbonisation efforts, are a proud signatory to the UN Global Compact (UNGC), endorse the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) as part of our broader sustainability commitments. To strengthen nature-related disclosures, we align our action and reporting with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). We also benchmark our performance through EcoVadis and collaborate with industry peers via Together for Sustainability. In addition, we are active members of the Climate Group EV100 and The Valuable 500, reinforcing our commitment to climate action and inclusion.

Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures

At Hempel, we address climate-related risks and opportunities as an integrated part of our 2030 Sustainability Mission, including sustainability-related CAPEX planning. We have conducted a comprehensive climate impact assessment based on TCFD recommendations and study climate change scenarios expressed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). We demonstrate alignment by reporting under TCFD’s four pillars of Governance, Strategy, Risk Management, and Metrics & Targets, integrating climate risk into enterprise risk processes, and disclosing validated targets such as those set through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
  • What is Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures?
The Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) is a global framework that guides companies in reporting climate-related risks and opportunities in a consistent and transparent way, helping investors and stakeholders make informed decisions. This is important not only for sustainability but for business continuity because it strengthens risk management, supports regulatory compliance, and embeds climate considerations into business strategy and financial planning.

Science Based Targets initiative

At Hempel, we demonstrate alignment by having our emissions reduction targets validated by SBTi and by integrating these targets into our 2030 Sustainability Mission and operational planning, ensuring progress is tracked and transparently reported.
  • What is Science-based targets initiative?
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global partnership that helps companies set greenhouse gas reduction targets in line with climate science and limiting global warming in line with the Paris Agreement. This is important because it ensures corporate climate commitments, such as Hempel's, are credible, measurable, and transparent.

United Nation Global Compact

At Hempel, we acknowledge the significance of this shared framework for our business and for society. Therefore, we have structured our sustainability commitments around this shared framework to contribute to sustainable development and demonstrate accountability. We prioritise the SDGs where we can create the greatest positive impact and have integrated them into our 2030 Sustainability Mission. To reinforce this commitment, we annually submit our Communication on Progress (CoP) to the UNGC and continue to disclose and report on our progress toward the SDGs as part of our structured approach to sustainability.
  • What is United Nation Global Compact?
The UN Global Compact (UNGC) is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, calling on companies to align their strategies and operations with ten universal principles on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global blueprint for addressing critical challenges such as climate change, inequality, and responsible consumption.

Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures

At Hempel, we align our reporting with the TNFD recommendations and pillars, integrating nature considerations into our ESG governance and risk management processes, and assessing nature-related impacts in our operations and value chain.
  • What is the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is a global framework that helps organisations identify, manage, and report nature-related risks and opportunities to support a shift toward nature-positive outcomes. Biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation pose significant financial and operational risks, and the TNFD provides a standardised approach for businesses to address them.

EcoVadis

Our engagement with EcoVadis reflects our commitment to transparency and responsible supply chain management. In 2025, we were awarded a Bronze Medal in recognition of our sustainability achievements, which places us among the top 35% of all companies rated by EcoVadis. This recognition covers our sustainability policies, actions, and results. To build on this progress, we have implemented a structured process to address EcoVadis’ corrective actions and continue to improve and track our performance ahead of the next self-assessment.
  • What is EcoVadis?
EcoVadis is a globally recognised sustainability rating platform that assesses companies on environmental, social, and ethical performance across their supply chains. It provides a standardised scorecard based on criteria such as environmental impact, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

Together for Sustainability

Hempel leverages their audits for suppliers from high impact categories and high risk countries, evaluations on ESG performance, and shared best practices, to drive collaboration across the industry, reduce duplication, and ensure consistent sustainability standards. Hempel's supplier engagement program aims to improve ESG competency building and data collection for transparency and analysis, with a strong focus on labour and human rights, and scope 3 decarbonisation within our upstream value chain.
  • What is Together for Sustainability?
Together for Sustainability (TfS) is a global initiative led by chemical companies to promote sustainable supply chains through a standardised approach to assessing and improving suppliers’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
