In an ambitious venture to modernize one of Europe’s most iconic football stadiums, the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, Hempel’s innovative solutions were selected to play a critical role. This extensive project, spanning from 2019 to 2024, involved key industry players such as Horta Coslada and Inbersa, with subcontracted work carried out by paint specialists like ENESA, CISA, and MONCASER, under the supervision of Real Madrid and the construction giant FCC.

The renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium was not just about enhancing its structure but transforming it into the most modern entertainment venue in Europe. This transformation demanded a corrosion and fire protection solution that met the highest standards of safety and efficiency. The solution
Hempel provided a comprehensive passive fire protection system called Hempafire Pro 315, renowned for its accurate dry film thickness (DFT) and exceptional performance in critical fire safety applications. This solution was complemented by Hempadur Avantguard 750 as an activated zinc-rich epoxy primer and Hempathane HS 55610 as a high gloss polyurethane topcoat for the structural elements. The roof cover also utilized Hempadur Mastic 45880 as a primer along with the same intumescent coating and topcoat, ensuring uniformity and the highest safety standards across the entire structure.
