Supporting the Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change

As part of the marine industry since 1915, Hempel is proud to communicate our support to the Neptune Declaration. This important initiative supports the well-being of seafarers and more fre-quent crew changes in the industry worldwide.

“More than 300 companies and organisations have signed up to the Neptune Declaration on Sea-farer Wellbeing and Crew Change. As a signatory and supplier to the global marine industry, we wish to show our support to seafarers who play an important role in keeping the world trade going even during the global Covid-19 pandemic,” says CCO of Hempel Michael Hansen.

The Neptune Declaration has been developed by a taskforce of stakeholders from across the maritime value chain. The Declaration defines four main actions to facilitate crew change and keep global supply chains functioning:

  • Recognise seafarers as key workers and give them priority access to Covid-19 vaccines
  • Establish and implement gold standard health protocols based on existing best practice
  • Increase collaboration between ship operators and charterers to facilitate crew changes
  • Ensure air connectivity between key maritime hubs for seafarers
