Blatt 100

Certified coating systems for bridges

Future-ready corrosion protection compliant with Germany’s latest ZTV-ING standard

Hempel’s coating systems are now certified to Blatt 100, delivering long-term durability, sustainability and compliance for bridge and infrastructure projects across Germany.

The new standard for bridge corrosion protection

Blatt 100 is the latest update to ZTV-ING Section 4-3, introduced in February 2025. Developed by BASt and the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), it replaces multiple legacy corrosion protection standards with one unified framework.
The new regulation simplifies specification processes while setting higher requirements for durability, sustainability and performance in infrastructure projects.

A modular approach to corrosion protection

Blatt 100 defines four system modules tailored to different substrates and project conditions:
  • Module A – Steel (New build & refurbishment)
    • High-performance coating systems for abrasive-blasted steel (Sa 2½)
    • Service life: up to 50 years
  • Module B – Surface-tolerant steel
    • For maintenance projects with limited surface preparation
    • Service life: approximately 25 years
  • Module C – Hot-dip galvanised steel
    • Duplex systems combining galvanizing and coating
    • Service life: up to 50 years
  • Module D – Thermal spray zinc
    • For metallised steel structures
    • Service life: up to 50 years
Each module defines coating build-up, application requirements and quality control criteria to ensure consistent and verifiable performance.

Supporting sustainable infrastructure

Blatt 100 promotes long-term environmental and economic value by extending maintenance intervals and reducing emissions linked to repainting cycles.

Hempel supports these goals with:
  • Low-VOC coating technologies
  • Durable, long-life systems
  • Reduced resource consumption over time
