The most economical activated zinc primer

Avantguard 550 is a zinc epoxy primer (level 3 in SSPC – 65%) that leverages Hempel’s patented Avantguard® technology. It performs at the same level as conventional zinc rich primers (80% of zinc) and Level 2 in SSPC. It meets test requirements up to C5-VH making it a suitable alternative to nominal zinc-rich primers, with an anticorrosive performance on par or better than many traditional 80% zinc-rich epoxies.

Triple activation technology

In standard epoxy coatings, a simple barrier prevents the steel substrate from interacting with the environment. Avantguard utilises three methods of corrosion protection: barrier effect, galvanic effect and inhibitor effect. Avantguard 550 is a cost-effective solution offering these three methods of corrosion protection with an optimized zinc content.

Efficiency with no compromises

Save time during the application process without compromising quality. Fast drying, with a short overcoating interval of just 45 minutes at 20°C, and high tolerance for humidity and temperatures, Avantguard ensures efficiency even in challenging conditions.

Improved sustainability

Avantguard technology’s enhanced zinc activation optimises zinc utilisationwithout compromising corrosion protection. Avantguard 550 is a zinc primer (level 3 in SSPC – 65%) which performs on the same level as a zinc-rich primer (according to ISO 12944-5) whilst delivering up to 18% less CO²e (embodied).
