The sure-fire way to navigate the 2020 SOx regulation
When the IMO sulphur cap comes into effect on 1 January 2020, all vessels will need to limit sulphur emissions to 0.5 per cent, down from today’s limit of 3.5 per cent. 

Most vessel owners face a simple choice: Switch to more expensive low-sulphur fuel oil (LSFO) or continue to burn high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) and install a scrubber to remove sulphur before exhaust is released into the atmosphere. Neither option is perfect, as both involve uncertainty and increased costs.
