Internal Hempel Talent Programme

The Hempel Talent Programme, Explorer - Next Generation, helps us develop an effective and strong leadership pool for the future. Are you one of our future leadership talents?

Effective and strong leadership is essential for the continued success of the Hempel Group. Launched in 2010, our talent programme Explorer - Next Generation runs each year with a new intake of promising young leaders from all Hempel regions.

How are candidates selected?
Explorer - Next Generation helps young leadership potentials from across the Hempel Group develop the skills and competences they need to become Hempel’s next generation of managers. Candidates are nominated by their managers, but only 16-20 are selected to join the programme each year.

Successful candidates show:

  • Leadership potential
  • Performance consistently above average
  • Excellent English

The programme is divided into two development steps: Explorer I and Explorer II.

  1. Explorer I

    What happens on Explorer I?

    At the start of Explorer I, you are asked to take a personality test. You then receive individual feedback from your talent programme coach. A few months later, you take part in an intensive training week at our headquarters in Denmark, covering the following topics:

    • Financial understanding and accountabilit
    • Company law, contracts and competition compliance
    • Communication and cross-cultural awareness
    • Change management
    • Project management (intro)

    On the last day of the week, you get information about a project assigned to you. This project will be your responsibility, and you are must present the results to regional management on a pre-defined date.

    After the training, you will also take a 360 test, a test where you are assessed by your manager, colleagues, direct reports and/or customers as well as yourself on a specific set of competences . The results of this test, along  with the results of the personality test and observations during the training, form the basis for a number of individual Development Follow-up sessions with your coach.

  2. Explorer II

    What happens on Explorer II?

    Based on what we have seen on Explorer I, you’ll be invited to take part in Explorer II or asked to continue your development work in a more regional setting.

    On Explorer II, you’ll take part in another week of training at our headquarters in Denmark, this time covering the following topics:

    • Case study/project work: putting Explorer I into action
    • Personal branding: selling your ideas and selling yourself
    • Everyday innovations: mindset, environment, actions and tools
    • Leadership styles: choosing the right style based on how you want to impact the organisation

    On the last day, you’ll be divided into learning groups so you can continue your development work together.
