BLUEOCEAN WIND: Hempel protects the world's most powerful floating wind turbine foundation

The world’s largest-capacity floating wind turbine foundation, the Three Gorges Yangjiang 16MW project, was completed in Beihai, Guangxi, China.

Developed under the leadership of China Three Gorges Corporation and constructed by Blueocean Wind’s Guangxi base, the foundation is designed to generate approximately 44.65 million kWh of electricity annually, marking a major milestone in the advancement of deep-sea wind power.

The challenge

The Three Gorges 16MW floating wind turbine operates in an extremely corrosive offshore environment located in Guangdong, China.

Operating in harsh marine environments, offshore wind equipment demands cutting-edge corrosion protection that balances:

  • Superior performance with environmental sustainability.
  • Reduced ecological impact & worker safety risks.
  • Easy application & rapid drying for complex pile structures.

The solution

A high-performance system combining a zinc-rich AvantGuard primer with a high-build epoxy designed for long-term offshore durability.

Our Avantguard 750 + Hempaprime Strength 530 + Hempathane Topcoat 55190 system delivers:
