VTB Arena

We are delighted to be part of the exciting VTB Arena Park
reconstruction in Moscow, supplying key protective coatings for the new, iconic
VTB Arena – Dynamo Central stadium.

The new Arena, designed by David Manica, is built on the historic site of the legendary Dynamo stadium that closed in 2008. This multi-functional sports and entertainment complex, including commercial and residential buildings, a 5 star Hotel Grand Hyatt and an extensive public park, is set to make history as the first stadium and arena built under one roof, within the boundaries of the existing walls, in Russia and Europe.

The challenge

It was important to our customer to use steel for the new Dynamo Central stadium produced in Russia wherever possible. The right protective coatings for this steel must meet stringent local and international standards, and be guaranteed for high quality performance for 10 years. Any steel manufactured outside Russia must meet the same high quality. With the new Arena set to become an iconic venue, our customer wanted to use the latest technologies wherever possible, including the protective coatings used. The specification included the need for a quick-drying, passive fire-protection coating system. The aim to reduce overall construction time and to offer protection to the stadium in case of fire.

The solution

With our state-of-the-art factory in Ulyanovsk, we are ideally located for fast delivery of the right products to local fabricators. With our global manufacturing facilities, offer the same products and technical service to the second steel manufacturer, based in Italy. This consistent offering gave the customer added peace of mind when choosing Hempel. Impressed with Avantguard, our customer specified our innovative, award winning, anti-corrosion primer, based on activated zinc to ensure long-lasting protection against the extremes of the Moscow climate and city environment. Additionally, our Hempacore One FD is certified to meet the customer’s specification for protection against fire.
It is proven to give people valuable time to escape in the event of a fire, whilst keeping the integrity of the structure for longer.
