Coating Inspection Course

The ‘Coating Inspection Course’ from Hempel Academy is a five-day course that gives you a good theoretical understanding of corrosion, as well as the practical tools needed for carrying out inspections of steel structures in the 'battle against corrosion'.

Who can participate?
The Coating Inspection Course is open to everyone and especially relevant if you perform or plan to take up supervision or inspection duties.

You are likely to be a prospective superintendent or someone who works in quality control, and we assume that you possess some basic knowledge of coatings and coating technology.

All course participants must be able to speak English at upper intermediate level or above.

What does the Coating Inspection Course cover?
This five-day course takes you through the following:

  • Corrosion theory and corrosion protection
  • How coatings actually protect
  • Generic paint types
  • How to interpret the paint supplier's technical data sheet
  • Specifications: exposure and lifetime of a coating
  • Surface preparation: methods and standards
  • Application methods
  • Inspection procedures and quality control
  • Health and safety in relation to the inspector's working situation

Before the course you will receive a pre-course manual. The manual, which describes the fundamentals of paint and coatings technology, will be a frame of reference for you during the course. The course includes ‘homework’ that you will be expected to complete each evening.

When and where does the training take place?
Our open courses are primarily held in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Guangzhou, China.
